Saltash is an on-call fire station that was rebuilt and officially opened on 28th June 2003.

The crew at Saltash participate largely in community fire safety, home fire safety checks and fitting of smoke alarms free of charge. They also organise visits to the station for school children, playgroups, cubs / scouts, brownies / guides.

Saltash Community Fire Station have a unique resource called early learning fire safety (elfs), which is available to borrow free of charge by all early years establishments (including: nurseries, pre-schools, child minder's). You can find out more information by visiting our page on elfs and how to borrow the resource from a community fire station in Cornwall.

Saltash Community Fire Station is also home to the Fire Cadets Scheme. Cornwall Fire Cadets is a uniformed youth organisation that aims to provide training and development opportunities to boys and girls aged 13 to 18 years. It encourages them to make the most of their physical and mental capabilities and to become safer, more responsible and caring members of the community. The group meets every Monday evening at the station, from 1900 to 2100.

There are seven premises in and around the Saltash area which are to be considered a High Risk.

These are:

  • Appleby Westward
    Asbestos cement sheet roof.  Large warehouse with potential for rapid fire spread.
  • China Fleet Country Club 
    Large number of public, chemicals on site.
  • Cotelhele House 
    Old construction, historic items, hidden voids.
  • Flogas UK LTD 
    Large storage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders & bulk storey.
  • Ince Castle
    Old building construction, items of historic value, hidden voids.
  • National Grid 
    Distribution of electricity, high voltage, propane, butane, acetylene, oxygen, hot mineral oils.
  • St. Barnabas Hospital 
    Building of 4 floors, large number of people, radiation, chemicals, pathogen hazards.
