Business Regulatory Support

The Council's Business Regulatory Support service can help you with:

  • environmental health
  • trading standards
  • licensing
  • fire safety and;
  • planning and building control.

We offer a single point of contact for bespoke business support. It will help you get the licences and permissions you need, when you need them. The services will help you get it right first time saving you time and money.

We are here to help you understand the legislation affecting your business and to point you in the right direction.

Business regulatory support service

The Council works in partnership with the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership. They also work with business support agencies across Cornwall to ensure that information, advice and guidance is available to help your business when you need it. We can help you if you are:

  • starting a new business
  • growing your business
  • relocating to Cornwall or;
  • running a social enterprise or charitable organisation.

Growth Hub - help for your business

The Growth Hub works with local businesses, including self-employed people and not for profit organisations, to help them find the right support, training, and funding to work smarter, develop and grow.
They offer a free business review to discuss your business growth goals. Their team of locally based experts work directly with you to help identify and access support, training and funding in a way that is right for you.

You can access a wide variety of support directly through the Growth Hub, that could help you to start or grow your business, develop a new product or service, take advantage of new technology, be more innovative, secure investment or move towards Net Zero.

Grant Funding

The Growth Hub offers a range of grant funding that aims to encourage businesses that have the ambition and capacity to grow and improve their productivity whilst also delivering improvements in environmental sustainability and enhancing social responsibility. Grants start at £2,500 and cover areas such as business growth, research development and innovation, and net zero.

Commercial Waste

By law, businesses are required to dispose of commercial waste using a licenced commercial waste collector.

SWIG loan information

SWIG Finance is a South West-based Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI). This means we specialise in lending to viable businesses that don’t fit other lenders’ criteria. We can consider information about your business that other lenders aren’t able to and offer loans alongside business support.

We provide Start Up Loans from £500 up to £25,000 and Business Loans of £25,001 to £250,000.

Our business managers provide support and guidance throughout the application process, and for the duration of the loan, to give our customers the best chance for success.
