Cornwall Airport Newquay Masterplan

Cornwall Airport Newquay (NQY) is owned and supported by Cornwall Council (CC) and is operated by Cornwall Airport Ltd. The Airport provides a significant opportunity for Cornwall to grow an embryonic aeronautical cluster and other airport related business activity and is vital for the connectivity it provides. Cornwall Development Company (CDC), through the European Regional Development Fund Infrastructure and Business Development Project, has funding to consider how the Airport can be developed to be more commercially and environmentally self-sustaining.

The current Airport Masterplan was approved by CC in June 2009. The global economic downturn has had a significant effect on aviation and has fundamentally changed the environment in which airports operate. To that extent, the principles upon which the current Masterplan was based have changed and it is in need of updating bryonic aeronautical cluster and other airport related business activity and is vital for the connectivity it provides. Cornwall Development Company (CDC), through the European Regional Development Fund Infrastructure and Business Development Project, has funding to consider how the Airport can be developed to be more commercially and environmentally self-sustaining.

CDC has commissioned a design team, led by HLM Architects, to refresh this Masterplan. It will explore the options available for the Airport to provide high quality facilities and a business environment to meet modern aviation needs. It further investigates the possibility to provide a new sustainable aviation business cluster to attract commerce and aviation industries through improved commercial operations and experiences for the end users.
