The Environment & Heritage Service employs over 120 professional, technical and administrative staff in four integrated areas - Historic Collections (Cornwall Record Office & Museums), Living Environment (Countryside, Natural Environment), Historic Environment (Archaeology & Built Heritage) and the Landscape and Urban Design Unit (Regeneration Project, Remedial Works).

Based upon the recognition that environment and heritage are cornerstones of prosperity and well-being in Cornwall, the over-riding commitment of the Service is: 'To recognise Cornwall's natural and historic environment; its strong culture, heritage and local distinctiveness; and conserve these for the benefit of the community.'
